        TOPIC:            Maritimes Marsh Monitoring Program

Wetlands provide critical habitat and a vast array of vital ecosystem services. However, with increasing pressure from development and
resource extraction many wetland ecosystems are in jeopardy. The Maritimes Marsh Monitoring Program aims to monitor all wetland birds and their habitats.

Program Coordinator, Holly Lightfoot will be joining us for the evening and will tell us about results
 from the first six years of the program, directions for the future, and how you can participate.

        EVENT:  Sussex Tree Nursery Presentation and Tour

Our group has been offered a tour & presentation of the Irving tree nursery located at 181 Aiton Road in Sussex.

We will have Greg Adams, Manager, R&D, talk about the company's research on forest ecology and management.
Also Kelly Honeyman, Chief Naturalist, will speak on the company's rare plant pre-screening program, stick nest
and legacy tree program, late successional forest policy and vernal pools program.

Greg and Kelly will be followed by Andrew McCartney, Laboratory Manager, who will give us a tour of the lab & nursery and show the
 work they do to support the company's tree improvement program, their nuclear stock potato plantlet production for Cavendish Farms
and their program to inoculate tree seedlings with naturally-occurring fungi to improve their tolerance to forest pests and diseases.

The presentation & tour will take place on Sunday, March 11th at 1:00 pm at the tree nursery, 181Aiton Road, Sussex. The program will last 2 to 3 hours.

We will meet behind the Cowtown Tim Horton's at 12:45 pm to car pool.

        TOPIC:            Schoales Dam Ranger Camp

The Schoales Dam Ranger Camp is a quiet forest retreat tucked away in the Shepody area about a kilometre past Adair's Wilderness
Lodge.  Relatively few people know it exists but a Sussex group called the Homesteaders Association Incorporated is trying to fix up the
camp so that more nature lovers can use it.

Graham Milner, one of the founding members of the Homesteaders Association will be with us for the evening to tell us about their
progress to date and their plans for the site.
