2017 Owl Prowl

After rescheduling the Owl Prowl three times, due to less than desirable weather conditions, we finally met at the Sussex Tim Horton on the evening of March 18. From that point 5 car loads of 22 hopeful participants headed out to the woods of Picadilly. Though it was a beautiful clear night, with a sky full of stars and not a breath of wind, we appeared to be having little luck calling in an owl. After an hour an a half, and on our 6th and final stop, we were successful! A very cooperative Barred Owl swooped in with a grand entrance. Not only did it land within view but crossed the road several times to everyone's delight. With the aid of flashlights most got a good look at its face peaking around the evergreen branches. To end things off perfectly it attracted a second owl and they got into quite the vocal exchange. It was a great finale for the evening.

Thanks to Judy we have a photo of most of the owlhoots.
