Winter Ducks II

After such a successful winter duck outing on February 7th we decided to do another one before the season ran out. On March 19th nine of us, including Richard Blacquiere (an expert on waterfowl) met at our first stop...the Hampton Water Treatment Lagoon. From there we made stops at the Rothesay water treatment lagoon, the Courtenay Bay area observed from Hanover Street, the Lancaster water treatment lagoon, the Chance Harbour & Dipper Harbour wharfs, Long Beach in Dipper Harbour and Maces Bay.

The temperature stayed just below the freezing mark but with the winds increasing through the day it made for some quick stops. Though we didn't see the large flocks of the first outing we did see almost twice as many species! With spring approaching many of our sightings included not only the over-wintering birds but those migrating as well. It was a successful birding day over all.
